Kitchen reno- tiling progress
It's been a bit quiet on the kitchen reno front, but this long weekend, Andrew & I have been tiling our new kitchen. A very satisfying project, that quickly changes the look of a room. There is still a little bit of tiling to be finished (with a bit of tile cutting), and then it needs to be grouted. We hope to have drawer fronts and knobs on this week with any luck!

Upcycled on Etsy
After my success with Evie's refashioned pants, I bought a couple more pairs at some op shops last week. This pair is now in my Etsy shop, and the other pair are for Evie, with red riding hood pockets. I'll show them soon, once I've bought some ribbon to sew on the lower legs- they had been hemmed by hand, and some lines were left when I let the hems down.

Evie's refashioned pants
Evie's pants are all getting a bit short, so it was time to think about making some more. I wanted to get some tan/beige corduroy for some plain pants that go with everything, so I was thinking that rather than traipsing around fabric shops that would take some effort to get to without a car, I'd see if I could find some suitable coloured adult pants in an op shop, and refashion them. And that I did. I found the perfect pair for $4 (half price orange ticket, so I was lucky!). I cut out the pants from a pattern, and all I had to do was sew up the crutch seam, make a casing for waistband elastic, put elastic in, and sew some pockets on the back. Voila, a new pair of pants. All I need to do now is to wash them to get the op shop smell out.

Lazy parenting anyone?
Livinia discovering the joy of chocolate. At least it's fairtrade. I thought she'd just play with the pretty colours, but no, seems she knew what was inside, and most have a little bite out of them. We've been discussing the ideas of the Idle Parent, his ideas sit well with me, but it's a way of life, not just parenting. The idea of working really hard so you can have a huge fancy house, expensive holidays and lots of stuff- really doesn't interest me. It's the simple life for me.

Happy Easter!
We had the day off from renovating today, as everything seems on track, and will get stuck into it tomorrow. After our Easter egg hunt, we were able to fit in a walk to get the newspaper before church, thanks to the end of daylight savings giving us an extra hour (not in bed mind you!) The bunny hat is from Mel Paton, and fits Evie nicely (a little big for Liv).

This is what we're doing for Easter
Pulling out the lower kitchen cupboards, drawers and benchtops, to put in a new and more functional kitchen. My Dad has made the carcasses out of recycled packaging boards from his work, we've bought doors from Ikea, and Dad has made us a new benchtop out of an Aussie hardwood, that Andrew has varnished with a low VOC varnish. We hope to put in some green tiles shortly after, once the plumbing is all sorted. New floors and blinds for the window will come a bit later down the track, maybe a new light fitting too.
The stove/oven and hearth will stay as they are for now, we'll have built in cabinets made for a new stove and oven at a later date, and put some new tiles in.
