One more sleep...

...until Ecofest. There have been some crazy amounts of sewing going on here lately, what with In.cube8r, Ecofest, and then 2 weeks ago I signed up for a market stall at our kinder's family fun day, which is on Sunday. So Ecofest tomorrow, and another market the day after- exciting, but I'll be glad when it's all over! I made 6 skirts on Tuesday (Melbourne Cup day- Andrew was home), and another 4 yesterday, as well as being on kinder duty in the morning. So it's off to the second of 6 school orientations this morning, then up to the church to set up for Ecofest. Gotta love this time of year!

Less than 2 weeks until Ecofest

These packs of soap will be coming with me to Ecofest on Saturday the 5th of November. I packaged these up today with my little helper Evie, into biodegradable cellophane bags and jute string. There is only 10 packs, so if you're a handmade soap lover, you'd better get in early. I completely sold out last year. They make great Christmas presents, and of course, lovely treats for yourself. In each pack, there's a lavender & almond meal, peppermint & lavender, and a rose geranium & patchouli. They're all naturally scented and coloured with clay (or not coloured at all), and are palm oil free. $10 per pack.

Casuarina Farm

We had our first fruit and vegetable box delivered today from Casuarina Farm, we found out about them at Ecofest. I've wanted to do this for a while, and I hadn't heard of these guys before. So far, so good, our garden will provide us with the rest- lettuce, cauliflower, leeks, silverbeet, spring onions, and soon, snow peas. I like to buy organic where possible, and this makes it that little bit easier.

Awesome Ecofest!

Just a quick post to say that Ecofest was a resounding success, with attendance far exceeding our expectations! Everything ran very smoothly, with a great buzz, everyone was asking when we were doing it again! We all put in a lot of effort, so it's not something we want to do all the time, but we may be able to run the market every 6 months or so. Bec and I did very well with our market stall, looks like we may have the market bug now :) The only down side was that Andrew's digital SLR is missing, presumed stolen, thus we have no photos to share :( We should have some on the blog soon from other cameras around on the day. Not sure of the grand total of $ raised, but we should be able to buy at least one water tank, which was part of the aim of the day. The other aim, to strengthen community ties was certainly achieved. Yay for us, well done and thank-you to everyone involved.

Ecofest

Just a reminder to local green minded folks that Ecofest is on this Saturday 10am-3pm, our whole family will be there, I will be sharing a market stall with Bec.
This pretty little number will be on my stall, it was a pillowcase a few days ago, picked up in an op shop, and it is beautifully soft, as only second hand bedding can be. It's a size 1 by the way. See you there!

Sewing with sustainable fabrics

Here's a few more items for Ecofest, the little dresses are made with indigo hemp/organic cotton denim, which is a lovely lightweight denim, and they have Bird Textiles contrasting sleeves, and they are remnants. The little skirts are made from a heavier weight organic cotton denim, again, with Bird Textiles remnant front panel. The 2 little dresses at the front are size 1, and are sooo cute!

More Ecofest creations

Here's some more skirts I whipped up in the last couple of weeks, thanks again to Jiddi's Patch. I now have 13 skirts set aside for Ecofest.
And 2 little dresses made from Indigo Hemp denim, and contrasting linen sleeves also from Jiddi's Patch. I also made a pair of size 5 pants, out of a pair of Andrew's old pants.

On Saturday the 9th of October, Western Heights Uniting Church is holding an Ecofest from 10am-3pm. Andrew & I are helping to organise it, our task is finding inspiring speakers for the day. Bec and I will also be having a market stall, with eco friendly children's clothes, accessories, and handmade (palm oil free) soap. If only you could smell my house at the moment, the peppermint and lavender is wafting through mmmm, fresh! The 4 skirts in the picture above are made from fabric sample books generously given to me by Jiddi's Patch. I'll be keeping these skirts for the Ecofest rather than listing on Etsy, though I'm rather fond of the purple one, which I thought I might keep for Liv, Evie thinks she might like it too. I think it will fit both of them! It might be good to have a little model or two wandering around on the day ;) We just found out last night that Gavin Webber from The Greening of Gavin blog has signed up to speak about his green epiphany. We're very excited about that, he thinks he'll spend the day down here. We are hoping to raise enough money to buy a watertank or two, to cut down our church's water use. We're also hoping to build a veggie and herb garden that the community can access. So mark the date in your diary if you're going to be in Geelong on the 9th of October, and we hope to see you there!
