Eco friendly undies

I've found an indie undie maker! I just bought two pairs of knickers from here and they are really comfy, and tick all the eco friendly boxes. They are handmade in Queensland, on the Sunshine Coast (think Eumundi markets) from fabric offcuts, with an organic cotton gusset. I bought the Lily ones, not too racy for me! You just select what colours you like and a theme, and they make them to order, so it's a bit pot luck, but sometimes surprises are ok.

Handmade Kids

Yay, my mushroom baby slippers made it onto Handmade Kids!

Big girl bed

Evie slept in her own bed for the first time last night. She's been quite happy in her cot for the whole night since about when Livinia was born. Prior to that, we co-slept/slept the first part of the night in the cot. The bed has been set up for her since we moved here a bit over a year ago, but she had only wanted to play in it, not sleep. So last night, we bit the bullet, and transferred her from our bed (where she goes to sleep) into her bed, where she slept through the night! We should have done it ages ago. Anyway, this is how I found the bed this morning- she got up around 6:30am, made her bed, put her slippers on, then came into wake me up. How cute is that, even the doll is on the bed!

Evie's tent

Evie just built this tent with her wooden clothesline, play silks, blanket and some pegs. I thought it was cute :)

Palm oil free soap

Here is some of my latest batch of peppermint & lavender soap, made without palm oil. I just doubled the coconut and olive oil and left out the palm, and it looks just the same as my other batches. I'll have to wait until it cures (4 weeks), to see if it lathers the same. I'm sure it will. I think most people know by now that palm oil production destroys the habitat of orangutans, and palm oil is in processed foods, soaps, detergents etc, mostly labelled as vegetable oil, so you don't really know if you're buying it. Even the solid cubes of palm oil I used to buy to make soap with said they were solidified vegetable oil. Now I can wash without a guilty conscience.

Sustainable house day

Today we had a look at a couple of houses as part of sustainable house day. One was around the corner from us (great to meet the neighbours!) and the other was near the city. I would have liked to have seen a few more, but with kids sleeping, and in and out of the car whilst trying to get a few other things done, it wasn't going to happen. Maybe next year :) It's good to see what other people are doing to their homes to make them more eco friendly, maybe one day our house will be sustainable enough for tours. Here's the site if you'd like to look at a few photos, I didn't think it was appropriate to be toting a camera in strangers homes. http://www.sustainablehouseday.com/

Spring is here!

Here is our vegie patch today. Blossoming nectarine tree, freshly pruned capsicum plants (to see if they'll grow again this summer), lettuce, rainbow chard, onions and leeks behind them, and some herbs in between.
